If you need to create a unique Bluesky app password to link your account to Surf, follow these steps:

  1. Open Bluesky and go to Settings:

  • On desktop, you’ll find Settings on the left side of the screen.
  • In the Bluesky app, tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.

2. Navigate to Privacy & Security > App Passwords, or go directly to the app passwords page here.

  • Click “Add App Password” and give it a recognizable name (e.g., “Surf”) so you know which app it’s for.
  • Choose whether to check “Allow access to your direct messages.” (Only do this if you want Surf to show DMs once that feature is supported in the beta.)
  • Click “Next,” then copy the generated app password and use it to log in to Surf.

If you ever want to revoke access, click the red trash icon next to the app password in the Bluesky app and select Delete.
