Flipboard’s topics algorithm automatically detects specific signals contained within an article and tags it with the most relevant #topic. While it does a good job of trying to tag all articles that get published on Flipboard, it’s not perfect. Our topics algorithm may not reconcile the best topic tag and the logic of our rules constantly evolve. As a result, it can mistag articles, tag articles that may not match a publisher’s preferred #topic, and some don’t get tagged at all.
There isn’t a way to manually add topic tags to articles, but is something we may look into launching.
